God Is

God is the Joy and the Strength of my life...(finish the song if you know it)

Dear Lord,

I pray right now for the person reading this. I pray that you will show them who you are in a spectacular way. I pray that you will bless them and their family. I pray that you will touch every situation that they are going through and that they will praise you for the storm that you brought them through. I pray for healing, comfort, peace, direction, faith, love and anything else that they may need. We know that there is nothing you can't do for us and I pray for the faith to believe that. I also Thank You for you just being who you are. You are the Great I Am. This I Pray in Jesus Name, with the forgiveness of our sins, Amen.

Who is God to you? God is can something different for everyone at different times and situations in our lives. We hear Preachers and Deacons say all the time "He's lawyer in the courtroom", "He's a doctor in the sickroom", "He's bread when I'm hungry", "He's water when I'm thirsty", "He's my way out of no way"... you can add other ones that you may have heard. What they are saying is not just stuff that is made up, it is who God is. He is all those things and so much more. When the children of Israel escaped from Pharaoh and were wondering in the wilderness they never had to worry about eating or drinking. Although they complained to Moses and Aaron about not having anything to eat and saying it would have been better for them to stay in Egypt as slaves where they would be full, God blessed them anyway with manna and meat everyday (Exodus 16). When they were thirsty He had Moses strike a rock with his staff and water come from the rock (Exodus 17). Examples of God being a way out, infamous stories of Daniel in the the Lions Den (Daniel 6) and The Three Hebrew Boys and the Fiery Furnace (Daniel 3). You can also use these last (2) stories for God being a lawyer in the court room too. These are just examples from the Old Testament. We haven't even talked about Jesus feeding over 5000 people from a boys lunch of 2 small fish and 5 loaves of bread after healing their sick (Matthew 14:13-21), the other people He healed from multiple illnesses (Matthew 8:16, Matthew 15:30, Luke 17:11-19, John 9:1-12), bringing people back to life (John 11:1-44, Mark 5:21-43), stopping the men from stoning a woman caught in adultery (John 8:1-12), and countless other miracles.

Some may be thinking that all these things are simple and pretty obvious that God can do that but that was way back then and times are different now. Besides my situation is different and I don't know if God can do anything. First, stop doubting God. I have mentioned in other blogs that we need to keep God out of the box in our mind. We get stuck on God being Jesus where He was fully God and fully man at the same time but was limited by being fully man to only being in one place at a time. That was who He needed to be in order to take the punishment for our sins but once He died and resurrected He was fully God only which means He is everywhere at the same time again. Let Him out of your box. Also, you hear people say God is the same, yesterday, today and forever more. Well that is not just something cute to say, that is scripture, Hebrews 13:8. That is where Tye Tribbett got the song inspiration for If He did it Before (Same God) from. The same God that comforted and healed the sick, ate with sinners, and loved everybody is the same God that is watching over me and you. He hasn't changed and He won't. We may change how we feel about God but He never changes the way He feels about us. He proved His love for us by putting on flesh and living among us for 33 years. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son; While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. There is so much encouragement in the Bible that you can't but feel better when you read it.

There still may be some hesitation on who God is and what He can do. I want to leave you with this. When God sent Moses to talk the Israelites, Moses wasn't sure who to say sent him to deliver them. God told him to tell them "I am" sent me. What does that mean? It means that whatever Moses needed God to be to convince the Israelite to go with him, that is what God was. If Moses needed God to be King of Kings and Lord of Lords, He was that. If he needed Him to be a way out of no way, He's that. If he needed Him to be a bridge over troubled water, He's that. If he need him to be shelter, food, hope, peace, strength, understanding, protection, deliverer, savior, redeemer and whatever else he need him to be, God said I am that. Now if we believe the Bible as God's Word and it to be true, then if we go back to the verse where it says God is the same yesterday, today and forever, then that means that if God is the I AM for Moses, He will be the I AM for you and me. All we have to do is put our faith and trust in God and don't try to put an Infinite God into a finite mind. He's too big. Let God be God.
